Forward, found in "Lethal Laws"

You hold a book in your hands.  It is a powerful tool.  This tool is designed to help you to avoid being murdered.  By the most likely murderer.  Your government.  In 1992, Robert F. Melson, Professor of Political Science at Perdue University, commented that:
 
"Since the Second World War many more people have been killed as victims of domestic massacres and partial or total genocides than by international war.  State-perpetrated massacres are a greater danger to the world community than war itself."

But Professor Melson does not explain why such events are becoming more frequent.  We can explain this.  Professor Melson's excellent study overlooks two key factors.  First, in recent decades, common technologies have boosted governments' powers over citizens.  Second, enforcement of "gun control" laws makes citizens more vulnerable than ever to this enhanced government power.  We cannot possibly abolish government.  To prevent further genocides we can -and must - abolish "gun control".

• that the media - print and broadcast - have the power to promote or to prevent genocide, in America and elsewhere;
• how some American media firms promote genocide by targeting law-abiding firearm-owners;
• the many parallels between America's Prohibition of alcoholic beverages between 1919 and 1933, and current efforts to ban the private ownership of firearms.

• hard, government-issued data show that military-type firearms -- the best tool for citizens to prevent genocide -- are not a public safety problem;
• Japan's low crime rate - supposedly due to its handgun ban - actually results from cultural values so widely-shared and deeply-ingrained (in a society that has almost no minorities), that "gun control's" only impact is to make police officers' working conditions more pleasant.

• to destroy the idea that "gun control is a useful public policy;
• to show media personalities and managers that any support for "gun control" erodes First Amendment freedoms;
• to over-turn "gun control" advocates' main arguments: everyone is safer in a disarmed society;
• the police will protect you;
• you are helpless against government forces;
• criminals often use "'assault rifles'";
• Japan shows the great benefits of "gun control".

The facts in this book come from many sources.  The knowledge in this book is powerful because of the way these facts have been assembled.  New insights enable us to create new knowledge from existing facts.  Knowledge is power.  And power is life-saving.

The knowledge in this book is life-saving.  It is no easier - or harder - for you to master the knowledge in this book than it is to learn to drive a car, to use a new tool, or to run a computer.  These things take some time.  They take some effort.  But they are within your grasp.

We finished writing this book on the Eve of the Festival of Purim.  The Festival of Purim marks the triumph of Jews in the ancient Persian Empire over an evil government official who plotted their extermination, during the reign of King Xerxes (born circa 519 BCE [Before Common Era] and died in 465 BCE).

Led by a fearless woman - Queen Esther - who risked her life to intercede with King Xerxes, the Jews prayed for Divine help.  They did more:

 "the Jews organized themselves throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus (the Hebrew form of Xerxes -auths.), to attack those who sought their hurt; and no one stood in their way, for fear of them had fallen upon all the peoples. ...And the Jews struck at all their enemies with the sword, slaughtering and annihilating; they treated their enemies as they pleased. ...The rest of the Jews throughout the King's provinces organized and defended themselves gaining relief from their foes, slaying seventy-five thousand of their enemies —— but they did not lay their hand on the spoils."
