On 23 August 2002, Gun Owners Alliance sent out an alert regarding a very
popular pro-gun columnist. Many of you have read, and benefited from the
"Ask the Rabbi" column, written by Rabbi Rob Mermelstein, and previously
published on JPFO's website.
Unfortunately, JPFO's executive director Aaron Zelman and Rabbi Rob Mermelstein
had a strong disagreement which led to a falling-out between the two. This
led Rabbi Mermelstein to request for his "Ask the Rabbi" column to be removed
from the JPFO website.
The original e-mail alert we sent on 23 August 2002, is found at:

The most perplexing and disturbing issue behind all of this is simple. Rabbi
Rob Mermelstein has allowed for his unique pro-gun writing talent to go dormant.
Many have encouraged the Rabbi to continue his "Ask the Rabbi" column, using
another outlet, perhaps another website of his choosing. And yet, there has
been no visible signs of the Rabbi entering back into the RKBA arena to continue
the good fight.
One individual sent an e-mail to be directed to Rabbi Mermelstein most recently.
Here is an excerpt from it, which tells the story:
Dear Rabbi:
I was wondering where you had gone to! There was
no explanation on the JPFO web site. I'm sorry to
hear of the breakdown between you and Mr. Zelman.
I do hope to see you on the web soon! I believe that
it is important for Jews to believe in the right to
keep and bear arms; My family was decimated by the
Concentration Camps, and certainly those who wish
to do us harm must know that Jews are not going to
"roll over". I believe that you offered a very real
service to both the public at large, and Jews in
particular.
When I read an e-mail like this one above, it lets me know what tragic waste
of a great talent is materializing, when the Rabbi seemingly has not yet
come back to the fight.
We do feel Rabbi Mermelstein may be fighting a common foe that happens to
all gun rights activists. It is called BURNOUT. Yes, we all need a rest from
the fight. It helps us to regroup and recharge our battery of enthusiasm.
But there is one other thing that will also help Rabbi Mermelstein. It is called ENCOURAGEMENT.
That is where you and I come in.
Please e-mail Rabbi Mermelstein at:
Rabbi@GunOwnersAlliance.com
....and encourage him to start his ever popular "Ask the Rabbi" column back
up. Let him know how much you benefited from his column, and how you miss
it now. As a courtesy, please cc: me at...

And by all means, forward this alert to your friends, and especially those
who remember Rabbi Mermelstein, and miss his pro-gun perspectives. We need
to get the word out!
