QUESTION: Dear Rabbi Mermelstein:

I would like one question answered. What will Gun Owners Alliance do if global disarmament (small arms) is enacted. In other words congress passes a law which supports this lunacy and the American public is supposed to follow suit. What plans does Gun Owners Alliance have to make a last stand, or just lay down? Are you organized where as you will be able to either try and defeat an opposing force of fellow Americans or what? I am asking you these questions because my wife and I refuse to hand over our guns to any organization, period. And we are looking for people with the same mind set so we can join an organization where numbers will be strength.

ANSWER: Dear Sir,

To answer your question, I can only speak for myself. Should a worst case scenario occur as you describe, I am not prepared for enslavement. I flatter myself that I would have the courage and conviction to fight even if the opposing forces are greater.

This is precisely what the Jews did in 170 BCE. They fought a government that outclassed them in manpower and weapons, yet they were decisively victorious. Today, Jews celebrate this military victory as Chanukah.

Whether I must stand alone or with my comrades of all faiths, I will fight. To roll over and capitulate under such circumstances would be to exist, not to live.

We are all scattered throughout the U.S., so I would have to face the Gun Confiscation Squad by myself when they came to my door to relieve me of my firearms. At least I would meet my end with dignity, not as a serf in a feudal system.

Many gun owners talk a good fight--"I'll give up my gun when they pry my cold dead fingers from around it." We should all be asking ourselves this question--"What am I prepared to do, really?"

Sincerely,

R. Mermelstein
