QUESTION: Dear Rabbi Mermelstein:

What do you think is the best .410 shotgun shell for protecting the house? Number 4, 6, 9, or buckshot? Thank you for your time.

ANSWER:
Dear Sir,

Many fail to understand the differences between bore and gauge sizes. The only difference between a .410 bore and 10 gauge shotgun is the number of pellets in the shot charge. Both shotguns can fire the same size pellets at the same velocity. The .410 bore simply fires fewer of them. #4 or #6 shot for indoor distances will do the job.

Sincerely,

R. Mermelstein
