"Ask the Rabbi" by R. Mermelstein

QUESTION: Dear Rabbi Mermelstein:
Although not Jewish myself, allow
me to say that it is with great pleasure that I have discovered the
"Ask the Rabbi" website. It was a relief for me to show this
website to my boss, who, although not a complete Anti-Semite, held the
belief for a while that all Jews were liberal, Socialist-loving antigun
powermongers (I was pleased to prove him wrong!!!). Needless to
say, it is hard not to smile with satisfaction when you see a website
that allows you to chat about firearms with a Rabbi!
My main point is this: I know that Senator Feinstein is antigun in
rhetoric. However, I heard that Ms. Feinstein herself carries a
handgun. If this is true, then wouldn't Ms. Feinstein be a
hypocrite? Doesn't the book of Proverbs speak against having a
double standard? A pity to see that, really.
May you be able to reach other Jewish people with this good cause and
make more people (Jew and Gentile) to realize the importance of
firearms.
Shalom!

ANSWER: Dear Jeremy,
That's exactly how the story goes.
When Ms. Feinstein became Mayor of San Francisco after the
assassination of her predecessor, she applied for and received a
Concealed Carry Permit, good throughout the Golden State. Now a US
Senator, Feinstein, like many other political, entertainment, and media
elitists, believe gun control is for the common masses. That's you and
me. A very common mindset among the rich and famous. The Feudal System
is still alive and well, unfortunately.
Sincerely,
R. Mermelstein
