"Ask the Rabbi" by R. Mermelstein

QUESTION: Dear Rabbi
Mermelstein:
I've read your answer on carrying weapons on the Sabbath, but a
related issue either isn't addressed or I'm not smart enough to discern
it. That being the case, I'll come to the point.
As a CCW licensee, I normally carry a weapon wherever it is legal for
me to do so. In Florida, there is no proscription against carrying a
firearm in a "house of worship", so particularly in this day and age, I
do so. It has, however, been pointed out to me I shouldn't do this "as
a sign of respect" and that somehow it is an affront to G-d. Is there a
Biblical basis for this, or am I correct in believing self-defense and
defense of others is a "24/7" proposition?
Respectfully,
Kim D. Campbell

ANSWER: Dear Kim,
You are most correct. Self-defense and defense of others is a "24/7" proposition.
Sincerely,
R. Mermelstein
