QUESTION: Dear Rabbi
Mermelstein:
180 grain seems to be the best carrier of energy, but rate of twist
is involved in the accuracy of each bullet weight and velocity. I do
not fully understand these relationships. Do you know? Are you willing
to teach?

ANSWER: Dear Dave,
The 1 in 10" twist of all rifles
chambered for the 300 Win. Mag is designed to handle projectiles as
heavy as 220 grains. It is the length of the bullet, rather than the
weight, that requires a faster rate of twist to stabilize it. The 180
grain bullet is the ideal weight in this caliber for all applications
where the 300 Win Mag is considered suitable.
Sincerely,
R. Mermelstein
