From a standpoint of reliability, one rifle is as good as the other. With regard to out of the box accuracy, I've never seen a Ruger Mini-14 that will print groups at 100 yards as tight as an untuned AR-15. Since the AR-15 is taking over and displacing the M1A (7.62 NATO) in DCM competition, the after market accessories for tuning an AR-15 are growing more numerous each month, it seems. Mini-14 accessories are plentiful, but they are, for the most part, cosmetic hang ons rather than accuracy enhancement devices.
