Gun Owners Alliance |
Many of us have been utterly flushed with anger over the flip-flop that occurred in the U.S. Senate this week. Many e-mails and articles have expressed this anger primarily at the Republican party. True, it was the Republican party that walked away from their previous pro-gun votes, 24 hours later. But is it really JUST the Republican party that is behind this betrayal?
On Wednesday, 12 May, the U.S. Senate voted down a bill to prevent, as they put it: Unregistered gun sales at gun shows. What they actually voted down was the next step on the road to full gun registration and confiscation.
Neal Knox reported THE NEXT DAY in his 13 May 1999 alert:
"Enough Republicans caved that this afternoon Sens.
Orrin Hatch and Larry Craig offered an
amendment that would require all sales at gun
shows to be subject to an Instant Check".
Just a day later, they had caved from their previous vote. But where
did the Republican's get their marching orders
from? Gun Owners Alliance is committed to telling you the R E S
T of the Story.
Did anyone happen to catch Wayne LaPierre's speech on May 1, 1999 at the annual meeting of members in Denver, Colorado? Wayne made this statement:
"We will consider instant checks at gun shows when, and only
when, this Administration stops
demanding new gun taxes and stops illegally compiling
the records of millions of lawful gun
buyers. Government list keeping surveillance of law-abiding
citizens is never a good idea."
Interesting. Never mind that the National Instant Check System (NICS)
now in operation was supposed to purge
the names and personal information from its computer system after
the sales are cleared from the first day
of operation. We now know this does not happen. In fact, Attorney
General Janet Reno is keeping the records,
including purchasers' names, for at least 18 months, ostensibly
for "statistical tracking." She really wanted to say "gun confiscation
tracking".
Does the NRA really believe that even if the Feds would claim to
stop storing names of gun owners, that they will
stop doing it? Does the NRA really trust the Federal Government
that much? Have they not learned anything in
the last 31 years how the BATF has used the 4473 form of gun buyers,
and compiled illegal lists repeatedly, and without being prosecuted for
their crime? What more proof is needed, NRA? YOU CANNOT EXPECT THE FEDS
TO DESTROY THE FILES, MR. LAPIERRE!
But now, we have made the task of gun owner registration much easier through the NICS system (Instant check).
But to my point. We now see the real reason the Republican Senators
have caved. IT IS SANCTIONED BY THE NRA! Still do not believe me?
Read the first quote I mentioned in this alert by Neal Knox. Now,
notice who helped draft this "compromise". Notice the name
"Larry Craig"? Senator Larry Craig is a board member of the
NRA. DID SENATOR CRAIG RECEIVE MARCHING ORDERS FROM NRA? From the looks
at the speech from
Wayne Lapierre we quoted in this alert, the answer is quitesimple.
YES, SENATOR CRAIG DID GET MARCHING ORDERS FROM THE NATIONAL RIFLE
ASSOCIATION.
So the next time we decide to ONLY get mad at the RepublicanSenate for compromising, lets also look at where they received their MARCHING ORDERS from. And perhaps we might let NRA in on a secret.
What's the secret?
They too, can share the blame for the compromises in the Senate.
I see the alerts that tell us to call our Senators to protestthis compromise. Perhaps we should not only be calling our U.S. Senators, but also the National Headquarters of the National Rifle Association!
Their Phone # is: 1-800-NRA-3888 or 1-703-267-1000
I just can't wait. I know I will get some e-mails from NRA members(guess
what? I'm a voting NRA member too!) telling me that I amhurting the cause
for an alert like this. What is really funny isthese same people NEVER
consider the IMMENSE DAMAGE that NRA isinflicting on the Bill of Rights
through their pet project, the
"Instant Check" or "NICS" system. SO LONG AS THE NRA ENDORSES THISREGISTRATION
SYSTEM, WE CAN EXPECT LEGISLATORS IN WASHINGTON D.C.TO STAND BEHIND NRA,
FOR IT MEANS BIG CONTRIBUTION BUCKS FROM THENRA-ILA IF THEY DO! NEVER MIND
THE INCONVENIENT BILL OF RIGHTS!
We, at Gun Owners Alliance want to affect change where the core ofthe problem exists. The only way that can be accomplished is toflood NRA with your calls of dissatisfaction. Tell them to STOPinfluencing the Senate to compromise our rights away! Call them!
