Gun Owners Alliance |
Truth has come out of Washington, D.C. (yes, truth) recently:
"There may not be much difference between Democrats and Republicans anymore."
This statement was made by Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle this week, after draconian gun control laws were passed by both Republicans & Democrats in the U.S. Senate.
May I revise that statement. It should rather read, "There may not be much difference between Democrats, Republicans and the NRA anymore."
Read on..............
Did you catch the most recent action in the U.S. Senate? Gun Owners of America, in their May 20, 1999 alert stated:
"Orrin Hatch and Herb Kohl-- the anti-gun zealot from Wisconsin--
co-authored an amendment forcing gun
sellers to include "lock up your safety" devices with
every handgun sold. [Kohl (D) is best remembered
for his unconstitutional Gun Free Zones Ban in 1996.]
Although failure to use a trigger lock would not be
negligence, per se, such failure could be used as evidence
in court-- thus encouraging people to refrain
from keeping firearms for self-defense. At day's
end, the Hatch-Kohl amendment passed 78-20."
Now, let's go to Wayne LaPierre's speech on May 1, 1999 at the annual meeting of members in Denver, Colorado. Wayne made this statement:
"We support and encourage the distribution, development and use of safety locks, trigger locks..........."
Yes, you read it right! For years, the NRA has stood against, and
opposed trigger locks. But....that was then, this is now. I wonder if people
will now have a better understanding of what Heston means when he
talks about bringing NRA into "the mainstream." And Mr. LaPierre is right
in step with the President of NRA, Mr. Charleton Heston. Never mind
that murderer or thief that breaks into your house. Surely, they will wait
while you UNLOCK you
trigger lock, so you can defend your family, friends & self.
No problem. That rapist will wait for you to unlock your trigger
lock, too.
But.....that's not all. We now have more insight on Heston & LaPierre's vision to bring NRA into "the mainstream."
Now, let's go again to Wayne LaPierre's speech on May 1, 1999 at the annual meeting of members in Denver, Colorado. Wayne made this statement:
"We believe in absolutely gun-free, zero-tolerance, totally
safe schools. That means no guns in
America's schools, period, with the rare exception
of law enforcement officers or trained security
personnel."
And also this statement by LaPierre:
"The National Rifle Association believes in no unsupervised youth access to guns period."
Of course, some young men and women are more responsible than 21 year olds. This is why it is common for a Dad to take his teenage (or younger) son out hunting in his deer lease, and when they get there, his son has a deer blind, and the Dad has deer blind perhaps 1/2 a mile away. However, taking into consideration the statement above by LaPierre, this act I just described should be illegal!
Well, don't worry. NRA is working hard to make it just that. Illegal.
Gun Owners of America also reported in their May 20, 1999 alert:
"It all began last week with an amendment introduced by Republican
Senator John Ashcroft
(MO) which further criminalized the possession of certain
firearms by young adults. (Keep
in mind, that as late as the 1950s, kids were taking
guns to school as part of organized school
training activities or ROTC. But with the Ashcroft
amendment, the mere possession of certain
firearms could, under most circumstances, land a young
adult in jail, even if there is a parent
in the near vicinity and there is no harmful activity
attempted with the firearm.)
And then, of course, you have the alert we issued on May 16, 1999 that touched on the compromises that the NRA has made regarding the Hatch/Craig amendment. This anti-gun amendment passed and required that gun buyers go through background "registration" checks at gun shows, even if a person is buying from a PRIVATE individual. The Hatch/Craig amendment also included massive increases in funding for the BATF, in addition to a vast array of other gun control.
Never mind that the Instant Check (NICS) is the next step on the road to full gun registration and confiscation.
Wayne LaPierre's speech on May 1, 1999 at the annual meeting of members in Denver, Colorado made this statement:
"We will consider instant checks at gun shows when, and only
when, this Administration
stops demanding new gun taxes and stops illegally compiling
the records of millions of
lawful gun buyers. Government list keeping surveillance
of law-abiding citizens is
never a good idea."
Go to http://www.goa-texas.org/australia-2.htm to read this previous alert touching on this subject.
But to my point. We now see the real reason the Republican Senators have caved. IT IS SANCTIONED BY THE NRA!
So the next time we decide to ONLY get mad at the Republican Senate for compromising, lets also look at where they received their MARCHING ORDERS from.
I see the alerts that tell us to call our Senators to protest this compromise. Perhaps we should not only be calling our U.S. Senators, but also the National Headquarters of the National Rifle Association!
Some people NEVER consider the IMMENSE DAMAGE that NRA is inflicting on the Bill of Rights through their pet project, the "Instant Check" or "NICS" system, TRIGGER LOCKS & MANY OTHER ANTI- GUN AMENDMENTS! SO LONG AS THE NRA ENDORSES ANTI-GUN LEGISLATION, WE CAN EXPECT LEGISLATORS IN WASHINGTON D.C. TO STAND BEHIND NRA, FOR IT MEANS BIG CONTRIBUTION BUCKS FROM THE NRA-ILA IF THEY DO! NEVER MIND THE INCONVENIENT BILL OF RIGHTS!
We, at Gun Owners Alliance want to affect change where the core of the problem exists. The only way that can be accomplished is to flood NRA with your calls of dissatisfaction. Tell them to STOP influencing the Senate to compromise our rights away! Call them!
